Flammulated Owl
Breeds in western U.S. and spends winters in central and southern Mexico as far south as Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. Prefers montane forests supporting aspen, ponderosa, and Jeffrey Pines.

 Streifenkauz - Barred Owl
Widespread in the eastern half of North America; spreading westward in the northern portion of range, already occurring in Washington State, is causing concern that competition and hybridization may impact populations of endangered Spotted Owls. Preferred habitats include deep, moist forests, wooded swamps, and woodlands near waterways.

Common resident in much of the western U.S., Canada, and Mexico in a variety of habitats. Preferred habitats include open woods, especially oak, mixed pine/oak, and sycamore.

Spotted Owl
Found from southwestern British Columbia south through the mountains of Washington, Oregon, and California, the western slopes of Sierra Nevada, and the southern Rockies; also occurs in Utah and central Colorado through Arizona's mountain ranges, New Mexico, western Texas, and central Mexico. Preferred habitats are dense, dark, old growth or mixed coniferous forests.
